Pillar bedding your forends to float the barrel is the second best option to the hanger bar system and the only option offered for factory handgun forends. The factory screw holes are opened up slightly and custom made aluminum pillars are epoxied into the factory screw holes. Two strips of 10 mil tape are applied to the barrel between the screw holes and while the epoxy is still wet the forend is screwed to the barrel and left to dry. When the epoxy has dried and the tape is removed the barrel floats away from the forend by the thickness of the tape. The forend screws then tighten against the pillars which in turn are resting against the barrel rather than tightening against the forend itself. |
